About Michael Law, MD

Introduction
Dr. Law is devoted to providing his patients with an aesthetic surgery practice environment that affords the greatest degree of safety and comfort possible, and complete confidentiality. To that end he performs all major cosmetic surgeries in fully accredited surgical facilities and uses only board-certified M.D. anesthesiologists to provide anesthesia care. He also provides patients with complimentary overnight observation at the surgery center with skilled nursing care following major surgical procedures.

His cosmetic plastic surgery patients benefit from the combination of his extraordinary training, his ability to communicate effectively and compassionately, his ability to identify and understand each cosmetic surgery patient's individual treatment goals, and his talent for producing natural-appearing aesthetic enhancements. As a leading North Carolina plastic surgeon, Dr. Law also believes that cosmetic surgery is not necessarily the ideal 'solution' for every patient's concerns, and for that reason he has incorporated a state-of-the-art, award-winning medical spa into his aesthetic surgery practice. Blue Water Spa offers a full spectrum of medical aesthetic technology and services that can provide both surgical and non-surgical patients with significant aesthetic enhancements, with minimal or no 'down time'.

This fully-integrated cosmetic surgery practice and medical spa provides aesthetic enhancements for patients at any stage in the aging process, and for patients with both modest and dramatic treatment goals. Dr. Law takes pride in offering only those products, services and procedures which are safe, effective and scientifically sound.

I am 28 years old, 5'4 and 255lbs. (44 DDD) I want to lose enough weight to get a tummy tuck, and a breast lift with implants. Is there a way to get a breast lift/implants with minimal visual scarring? (i.e. without the line typically seen from the areola straight down) Are there post op procedures…

I have been using a 'vertical scar' technique for many breast lifts, which eliminates the long, horizontal incision in the inframammary fold below the breasts. This technique not only eliminates the horizontal incision, but also creates more impressive breast projection and maintains it better over time. The breast lift procedure I perform not only removes breast skin but also moves some lower pole breast tissue to a higher position, increasing the projection of the nipple/areola area. Breast lift surgery works well for patients with enough existing breast tissue to build a projecting 'breast mound'. However, in most patients it is difficult to create sustainable fullness in the upper poles of the breasts by means of a mastopexy alone. This is particularly true in patients who have experienced significant deflation following pregnancy and lactation. For patients who indicate that they wish to achieve a fair amount of fullness in the cleavage area as a result of their breast lift surgery, I recommend that they undergo augmentation mastopexy. This surgery combines a breast lift with the placement of a breast implant usually of modest size, which produces the most youthful breast profile possible. Another option for adding fullness to the breasts is structural fat grafting in conjunction with a breast lift. If your surgeon is recommending a ‘circumareolar’ or ‘donut’ or ‘Benelli’ mastopexy, insist on seeing as many postoperative photographs as possible. Be sure to view photos six months and a year or more after surgery. I can almost guarantee that you will not like what you see, and that you will not be inclined to have that surgery - which is not truly a breast lift surgery - performed on your breasts. It is not uncommon for a woman to want a breast lift and tummy tuck together. This is often referred to as a Mommy Makeover. Find an ASAPS member who has many, many photos that are appealing to you. Check their education, training and philosophy. Following surgery, many surgeons, myself included will use a V-beam laser to help surgical scars heal quickly. Be in your best possible health before surgery to help ensure the best results and fastest, most comfortable healing experience.

All my life I have lived with the fact that one of my breasts is larger than the other. Now that I am 48 years old and all has headed south, I would like to know if fat from my stomach could be placed in my breast to even them out.

Structural fat grafting to the breasts can provide a wonderful result. I often use fat grafting with a lift in order to add some fullness to the upper pole.

I am 50 years old and in good physical shape. I am a tri-athlete. I am considering a mini-face lift. My problem areas are small lines above my lip, crows feet, laugh lines, and lines on my forehead. I always look tired. Do you recommend a face lift?

It is impossible to give you ideal suggestions without any photos. But, the concerns you describe could possibly be addressed without surgery. Lines above the lip can be addressed with microneedling, laser skin tightening and / Belotero injections. Crows feet, laugh lines and forehead lines can often be improved with Botox. Looking tired could be from a result of very low body fat (typical of a tri=athlete) fillers like Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma, or structural fat grafting, depending on the area could provide an improvement. Be sure to seek out a plastic surgeon with a plastic surgery medical spa that offers non-surgical options can provide a consultation. A doctor that offers only non-surgical treatments will steer you in that direction. A surgeon who doesn't offer the full range of non-surgical aesthetic enhancements will likely suggest surgery or nothing. Many ASAPS members offer a full range of surgical and non-surgical aesthetic enhancements.

Consultation Price
We have a two-part consultation process. Your initial consultation is a complimentary appointment with one of our experienced Cosmetic Surgery Patient Coordinators that is 30 to 45 minutes long. Your Patient Coordinator can give you answers to general questions you may have about surgical procedures in this practice. They will also discuss with you your health history, expectations for surgery, and a general price range for the procedure(s) you are interested in. ‘Before and After’ photographs are also available for your review. If it is determined that the aesthetic enhancement in which you are interested can be accomplished in this practice, then a consultation appointment will be scheduled for you with Dr. Law.

Your consultation with Dr. Law is a one-hour appointment. Dr. Law will discuss with you in detail the aesthetic enhancement(s) that you have in mind, examine the area(s) that you wish to improve, and based on the discussion and examination will put together a personalized surgical plan that meets your individual needs. There is a $100 prepaid fee for this consultation. That charge will be applied to surgery, if you elect to proceed.

For out of town patients, a Cosmetic Surgery Consultant will discuss surgery with you by phone to determine if we can provide the surgical treatment in which you are interested. A completed intake form and digital photographs will be evaluated prior to your telephone appointment, and Dr. Law also requires copies of operative reports from any prior cosmetic surgery that has been performed on the body area for which you desire surgical improvement. Following the telephone appointment, a two-part, in-person consultation appointment may be scheduled, consisting of an initial 30-minute meeting with a Surgery Coordinator followed immediately by a one-hour consultation with Dr. Law.
