How long does it take to recover from botulinum toxin injections?
The recovery time is minimal. After your injections, you should be able to return to your regular activities immediately. You may have redness and swelling in the treatment area right after your injections, which usually resolves quickly. You should start to see your results a few days after the injections. If you have any bruising post-treatment, it will usually resolve within a week or two.
What precautions should I take after my botulinum toxin injections?
It is unlikely you will have any serious side effects from botulinum toxin injections, however you should speak with your surgeon about what is unique to you. Your surgeon may instruct you to:
- Avoid strenuous or vigorous activities for the rest of the day after your treatment.
- Avoid massaging or touching the injected area after your treatment; this may inadvertently cause the botulinum toxin to spread to an unintended area.
- Avoid lying down or inverting your body following the injections as that can cause complications.
- Ask or call the office before taking painkillers or medication.
