Education & Training
Dr. Gutowski is fellowship trained and board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He completed his college education at the University of Michigan where he did research in biochemistry and surgery. Next, he received his Medical Degree at Michigan State University and trained in General Surgery at the University of Minnesota where he dedicated two years to plastic surgery research. Later, his Plastic Surgery training was fulfilled at the University of Texas Southwestern, one of the most prestigious plastic surgery programs in the nation. His fellowship was then completed at the renowned Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University.

I had a consultation with a surgeon who is listed as ABPS certified. He suggested a breast lift under local anesthesia in his office. I wanted to ask if performing a mastopexy under local anesthesia is advisable and safe?

It depends on a few factors but a breast lift can be done awake safely with local anesthesia. I offer that also and patients have been happy with the experience.

My daughter is 15 and she has really bad neck, back pain, and she can’t stand up for long times, as well as a few other symptoms of her breasts being too large. A breast reduction can be done for a 16 year old if symptoms are severe enough. Start with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and make sure her pediatrician has evaluated her also.

I had a full tummy tuck less then 3 weeks ago to repair a significant diastasis and small hernia. It seems to me the top part of the correction (above my new belly button) didn't take. Bottom half feels firm and flat. Any way to correct this without another full tuck?

This may be due to swelling. It would be best to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

I had 2 C sections that left me with an ugly scar. I also have a hernia that needs to be repaired. When I get my hernia repaired can I get the scar fixed and a tummy tuck all at the same time? Most plastic surgeons fix hernias but may chose to do it with a general surgeon. However, general surgeons are not trained in tummy tucks and should not be offering to do them.
