Breast Reduction
I'm considering having a breast reduction. How long does it take to start the whole process? I want to have it done while the kids are out for summer break, so that my son and niece can assist me for the first few weeks needed. I will give my doctor a final answer on May 4, 2016.
The process of surgery to complete healing may take six weeks. If there are complications, the healing time may be extended. Summer break may be a reasonable time to have the procedure. Best wishes.
For most of my patients, recovery is 2-4 weeks. It may take longer to get back to high impact cardio activity such as running or rigorous exercising but certainly daily activities can be resumed within two weeks. I usually recommend to my patients to have someone available for the first 2-4 days after surgery.

If you already have seen a physician and gone through the appropriate evaluations and discussion, recovery takes 2-4 weeks but by the end of one week a majority of women are off narcotics, can care for themselves and drive. Vigorous physical activity is restricted for up to a month.
For those wanting to get insurance coverage, our experience is that it takes 1-2 months to get approval in some cases. For those who are not using insurance for coverage, the main obstacle is finding a mutually acceptable time for patient and surgeon.
