Dr. Thomas P. Sterry is a board-certified plastic surgeon who is considered one of the best plastic surgeons in New York City. Since establishing his private practice in Manhattan in 2001, he has built a reputation as a trusted authority and leader in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Sterry also holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Queens College, CUNY. Education & Training
Dr. Thomas P. Sterry is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive academic, surgical, and reconstructive training. He serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and has held leadership positions within major regional medical organizations, including President-Elect of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons, Vice President of the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons, and Assistant Treasurer of the New York County Medical Society.
Dr. Sterry completed his Plastic Surgery Residency at the Mount Sinai–NYU Medical Center from 1998–2001, receiving comprehensive training in advanced reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, microsurgery, breast reconstruction, trauma, and burn care. His training included rotations at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Westchester Medical Center’s Level I Trauma and Burn Center, Elmhurst Hospital Center’s Level I Trauma Center, and the Bronx Veterans Affairs Hospital. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1995–1998, gaining broad experience in complex surgical disciplines including trauma, breast surgery, head and neck surgery, transplantation, burn care, and advanced laparoscopy.
Dr. Sterry earned his Doctor of Medicine with Distinction in Research from Stony Brook University School of Medicine in 1995. Prior to medical school, he earned a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Queens College of the City University of New York and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Stony Brook University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sterry has contributed to the field of plastic surgery through peer-reviewed research, scientific presentations, book chapters, and case reports focused on microsurgery, reconstructive techniques, body contouring, and complex surgical reconstruction. His academic work has been published in the Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery and other surgical literature, and he has presented research at national surgical meetings.
