About Stephen E. Metzinger, MD, FACS
Introduction
Dr. Stephen E. Metzinger is a nationally recognized, triple board-certified plastic surgeon and founder of Aesthetic Surgical Associates in Metairie, Louisiana. With more than three decades of surgical experience, Dr. Metzinger is known for delivering sophisticated, natural-looking results in facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, breast surgery, and body contouring procedures.

Professional Background
Dr. Metzinger has dedicated his career to the advancement of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. In addition to maintaining a thriving private practice, he has served as an educator, researcher, and mentor in the field of plastic surgery and facial plastic surgery.
Following advanced fellowship training in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Microvascular Surgery at the prestigious University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Dr. Metzinger joined the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. There, he held dual appointments in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and the Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery.
During his academic tenure, he developed the Plastic Surgery Division’s basic science laboratory, served as Director of Resident Research for both Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology, and later became Co-Program Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program.
Dr. Metzinger has contributed to advancements in:
• Breast reconstruction with perforator flaps
• Rhinoplasty and facial plastic surgery
• Cosmetic eyelid rejuvenation
• Nerve regeneration research
• Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures
• Craniomaxillofacial surgery
He continues to lecture, teach, and remain actively involved in the latest innovations in aesthetic surgery.

Education & Training
Dr. Metzinger earned his undergraduate degree from Tulane University and subsequently received a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) from the Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine.
He completed his medical degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, followed by extensive surgical residency and specialty training emphasizing plastic surgery, facial plastic surgery, and head and neck surgery.
He later completed subspecialty fellowship training in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Microvascular Surgery at the internationally respected University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
Dr. Metzinger currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at Tulane University Health Sciences Center.
